The greater Seattle region is home to nearly 5,000 farms, with more than 17,000 farms operating throughout Western Washington. Together, these farms form the backbone of a vibrant agricultural community that contributes significantly to the region’s economy, environment, and quality of life. From fresh fruits and vegetables to dairy products, meats, flowers, specialty crops, and handcrafted goods, local farms provide an incredible diversity of products that reflect the richness of Washington’s agricultural landscape. Many Seattle-area residents encounter these products through grocery stores, farmers markets, community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs, and local businesses, yet the full scope of what our regional farms offer often remains underappreciated.
Despite the abundance and accessibility of local agriculture, there is a growing opportunity to strengthen the connection between consumers and the farms that sustain our communities. Many residents are unaware of the breadth of products, services, educational opportunities, agritourism experiences, and community initiatives available through local farms. As urban and suburban populations continue to grow, fostering a stronger understanding of and appreciation for regional agriculture becomes increasingly important—not only for supporting local economies but also for preserving farmland, promoting environmental stewardship, and strengthening food system resilience.
At Seattle Roots Collective, we believe that local agriculture is about much more than produce. Our vision is to create a more informed, connected, and engaged community by serving as a trusted resource for discovering and supporting farms throughout the Seattle and Western Washington region. We are committed to increasing awareness of the people, products, and stories behind local agriculture while making it easier for residents to access the resources available in their own communities.
